BIG and I mean BIG
Posted in 4 metre waves on the reef
As I left the apartment complex this morning and walked the few yards to the beach, i admit to saying the ‘f’ word a few times as I approached the sea. Confronted by 2.5 metre shore break and waves on the reef of up to 5 metres, this is a pretty BIG spectacle and the ugly language understandable; whopping great waves, the size of which I have not seen for some time here. I woke Jim up and he went to take a look before declaring it too big for surfing. It’s not the size that is the problem, more the ‘mess’ of getting through the white water on your way out.
After spinning this morning, I will enjoy watching today rather than taking my chance kiteboarding. I’m not big on BIG, and tend to get mauled by waves like this. Jim, on the other hand, relishes kiting in swells like this when there’s enough wind to get powered up and right now, at 11.34am, it looks like the wind is arriving that he needs for a really ‘juicy’ day.
We have just returned from the beach and have got some nice photos to publish later so check back tonight or tomorrow. Now we are off to kite…………
