It’s Thursday AM…….the wind is already blowing like stink – the sort of wind that gets the Dominicans on the water at some ridiculously early time; especially after a few days of poor or no wind at all.  I was surprised this morning not to see some kites already up.  

It blows me away how many people are already using my little Blog site as a source for Cabarete information; gotta love that what you write in your own tiny world, reaches such a vast audience.  Tell me if there’s more info I could imput to help out.

I have an ‘orchid’ chore to do this morning; I’ve been trying to grow them on my balcony for a while and for a while they did great but now, after reading an exhaustive explanation of how to grow Orchids, it is clear that it is indeed ‘rocket science’ – After sifting through about 20 pages of info, I have come to the conclusion that they need re-potting already and that’s my chore.  Having said that, I am also desperate to go kiting, so we’ll see, especially as I cannot even identify which brand of orchid I have as they have not flowered for so long.

 

  The photo was taken a few days ago; the last really great wind day;  at the kiteboarding for kids event my friend Laurel organized.  It was a great competition; not just because they had great conditions (25 knots, huge waves) but actually because she got the fun back into competing.  

 

You see for those of you reading this who don’t know so much about kiting, the official PKRA competitions are tedious to watch; even the World tour events, as the ‘tricks’ are not allowed to use the kite to gain lift, which is patently crazy and results in low, fast and rather unpleasant ‘wakeboard’ style moves.  Laurel’s competition involved a 3 hour ‘race’ around a really tough course and a “BIG AIR’ competition, where the competitors had to get as much air as possible – some of these jumps were huge and always a great spectator event.

12.24pm……Orchid update……..my Orchids will be save by Jany who has explained everything I was doing wrong – they have all just arrived back from the hospital out of intensive care.
